December 2017 - Middle Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association’s mid-state auditions for the ninth/tenth, eleventh/twelfth and jazz honor bands were held this month. We are very pleased to announce a record-breaking thirty-seven (37) members of the Stewarts Creek High School Band were accepted to the mid-state’s top concert and jazz bands! Seven (7) members of this group earned first chair positions. Eight (8) members were also selected for the Tennessee Music Education Association’s Tennessee All-state Band. SCHS leads Rutherford County schools with the largest number of students seated in the mid-state and all-state honor bands for the second year in-a-row. Congratulations to all students who auditioned!
December 2017 - Each year, the Middle TN School Band and Orchestra Association (MTSBOA) conducts a regional concert performance assessment, in which participating ensembles receive a rating based on prepared selections and sight reading. While several bands earn a rating of superior, a few will stand out as exceptional among the many. It is for the recognition of these bands that the “Award of Distinction in Concert Performance” exists. Commissioned by the American School Band Directors Association, this special recognition is given to bands that earn a perfect score at regional concert performance assessment, achieving superior ratings in all categories, from all judges.
Earlier this year, the Stewarts Creek High School Band was one of only six (6) bands out of one-hundred fifty (150) participating to earn all superior ratings, in all categories, from all judges on prepared musical selections, and sight reading at the MTSBOA Regional Concert Performance Assessment in March.
March 2017 - The Stewarts Creek High School Concert Band and Wind Ensemble recently participated in the 78th Annual Concert Performance Assessment presented by the Middle Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association (MTSBOA). At this high-stakes assessment bands from around Middle Tennessee play for esteemed adjudicators who judge bands on difficulty of repertoire performed, quality of performance, and ability to sightread music.
The Concert Band performed Grade IV literature, which is most often reserved for experienced high school bands. The Wind Ensemble played Grade VI literature, which is normally performed by collegiate and professional ensembles. Their most challenging piece was the "Psalm for Band" by American composer Vincent Persichetti, which has been recorded and performed by many esteemed University ensembles and Military bands.

December 2016 - Auditions for MTSBOA Mid-state honor bands concluded Saturday December 10th, with 9th and 10th grade students. We are very pleased that twenty-six (26) members of the SCHS Band were accepted in mid-state Wind or Jazz Ensembles, with one member securing a top seat. SCHS leads Rutherford County schools with the largest number of students seated in the mid-state honor bands this year.Congratulations to all students who auditioned!
November 2016 - The Stewarts Creek High School Band traveled to Honolulu, Hawaii to recognize an historically significant event in our nation's history. Representing Smyrna and Rutherford County, the band's national debut included performances in the Waikiki Holiday Parade and at the U.S.S. Missouri, near the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial, commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Attack on Pearl Harbor.
