SCHS Bands Receive Superior Ratings

March 2017 - The Stewarts Creek High School Concert Band and Wind Ensemble recently participated in the 78th Annual Concert Performance Assessment presented by the Middle Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association (MTSBOA). At this high-stakes assessment bands from around Middle Tennessee play for esteemed adjudicators who judge bands on difficulty of repertoire performed, quality of performance, and ability to sightread music.

The Concert Band performed Grade IV literature, which is most often reserved for experienced high school bands. The Wind Ensemble played Grade VI literature, which is normally performed by collegiate and professional ensembles. Their most challenging piece was the "Psalm for Band" by American composer Vincent Persichetti, which has been recorded and performed by many esteemed University ensembles and Military bands.

Both ensembles received Superior Ratings, the highest available, in both performance and sight reading. For the second year in a row they received an invitation to the State Concert Festival as a result of their performance.
