December 2017 - Middle Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association’s mid-state auditions for the ninth/tenth, eleventh/twelfth and jazz honor bands were held this month. We are very pleased to announce a record-breaking thirty-seven (37) members of the Stewarts Creek High School Band were accepted to the mid-state’s top concert and jazz bands! Seven (7) members of this group earned first chair positions. Eight (8) members were also selected for the Tennessee Music Education Association’s Tennessee All-state Band. SCHS leads Rutherford County schools with the largest number of students seated in the mid-state and all-state honor bands for the second year in-a-row. Congratulations to all students who auditioned!
December 2017 - Each year, the Middle TN School Band and Orchestra Association (MTSBOA) conducts a regional concert performance assessment, in which participating ensembles receive a rating based on prepared selections and sight reading. While several bands earn a rating of superior, a few will stand out as exceptional among the many. It is for the recognition of these bands that the “Award of Distinction in Concert Performance” exists. Commissioned by the American School Band Directors Association, this special recognition is given to bands that earn a perfect score at regional concert performance assessment, achieving superior ratings in all categories, from all judges.
Earlier this year, the Stewarts Creek High School Band was one of only six (6) bands out of one-hundred fifty (150) participating to earn all superior ratings, in all categories, from all judges on prepared musical selections, and sight reading at the MTSBOA Regional Concert Performance Assessment in March.
